Shepco is a leading manufacturer, distributor, and supplier of quality mining, engineering, and industrial products. The company was founded in 1996 in Bulawayo — at the heart and hub of mining and industry in Zimbabwe — by a dynamic and visionary leader, Dr. N.S. (Shepherd) Chawira.
Prior to founding Shepco, Dr. Chawira had extensive experience in the supply and service of vehicle spares and consumables to the mining, manufacturing, agro, transport, communication, and construction industries.
With over 30 years of experience, we've established ourselves as a leader in the manufacture, distribution and supply of quality mining, engineering and industrial products — designing and producing through factory units in Bulawayo and two other economic regions, Northern and Manicaland. We maintain the highest levels of leadership integrity, quality, innovation, safety standards, employee satisfaction, and customer satisfaction. Through strategic growth from a modest company of fewer than 20 employees at inception, we now have over 150 employees across all our regions, alongside three subsidiaries — ShepcoBMA Fasteners, Shepco Properties, and Hungwe Wire and Rope — acquired over the course of our evolution.
Shepco opens to the public with fewer than 20 employees, becoming a key supplier of consumables and spares to customers across the country. A workshop is soon established for repairs and the manufacture of equipment and components.
Our innovative team and visionary leadership grow the company from a modest supplier into a fully-fledged engineering powerhouse. We begin manufacturing Rolling Stock — Cocopans, rail switches and accessories — from our Bulawayo factory, and forge a strategic partnership with Trident SA for sole distribution of Goodman Locomotives and Eimco Air Loaders in Zimbabwe.
As a key player, we could not service our customers effectively without growing the factory. Three departments were conceived from one factory — Fabrication Shop, Machine Shop and Fitting Shop — each equipped with state-of-the-art technology. To date, we remain the best in precision and design manufacturing.
In line with our growth and innovation strategy, we introduce conveyor rollers and accessories — a new product line that quickly proves durable and versatile, and has grown into a key business unit for the organisation.
From headgear design and installation to onsite inspection and commissioning, Shepco now delivers full turnkey engineering solutions — over 150 employees strong, across three regions and three subsidiaries, servicing mining, agro-processing, construction and transport.
